Impact of The Installed Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) In Heavy Transport Vehicles on Tread Wear Height in Tires

AbstractThe construction of a modern tyre, due to its durability and resistance to external factors, is very complicated. The tread is undoubtedly the most important element of a tyre. Its design and thickness have an impact on driving comfort. Lack of driver's reaction to the signals and alerts coming from the monitoring system exposes the company to losses in the form of too early tyres being worn out, increased combustion and even damage to the axle or transported goods. Therefore, it was advisable to develop a continuous monitoring system enabling pressure and temperature measurements with a frequency adjusted to the vehicle's driving course, and enabling the reduction of data stream for the management of vehicle operation procedures, e.g. by controlling the drivers' decision-making process. The purpose of paper is to determine the impact of installing the developed system of continuous monitoring of tyre performance values on the tread wear of truck tyres. With the installation of a performance monitoring system on a tyre it is possible to react quickly and make decisions about the condition of the tyre (e.g. regrooving or replacing the tyre). The paper presents data on the abrasive tread wear of tyres in vehicles with and without a system. Statistical calculations have also been made - statistical tests of the significance of differences in tread wear.
