Ocena przydatności fiberoskopii w diagnostyce schorzeń przewodu pokarmowego psów
The aim of the study was to estimate the expediency of fiberoscopy in diagnosing alimentary tract diseases in dogs. The experiment was conducted on 102 dogs of different breed, size and sex, aged 6 months to 13 years. The dogs were divided into two groups: I - clinically healthy ones, II - with clinical signs of lesions in the oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, colon and rectum. The results obtained from the second group were compared with radiology and histopatology observations. It was concluded that fiberoscopy is a useful method in diagnosing alimentary tract diseases. In the case of inflammations, ulcerations and noncontrasting foreign bodies, fiberoscopy seems to be a basic diagnostic technique. Motor lesions are best diagnosed on the basis of radiological evaluation, with fiberoscopy playing a secondary role. A histopatological evaluation of biopsy materials should be performed even when no macroscopic lesions are observed during endoscopy.
